Reptiles move between microclimates to control digestion and activity. A uniform enclosure removes that choice even if its average temperature looks correct.
Create measurable zones
Provide a local basking site, warm ambient area and cooler end, with secure hides in more than one zone. Use a digital probe for air temperature and an infrared thermometer for surfaces at the places the animal actually uses.
Control and test
Regulate each appropriate heat source with a correctly positioned thermostat and protect animals from direct contact. Run a new enclosure for several days before arrival and log day, night and hot-weather values. Species-specific targets and night drops must come from a reliable care guide.
