Reptile diets vary enormously. Some eat insects, some plants, some whole prey and some a mix. Feeding correctly means understanding the species, not copying a generic schedule from another animal.
Insect eaters
Insects should be appropriately sized and well fed before being offered. Many insect-eating reptiles need calcium and vitamin supplementation, especially with UVB-dependent species. Poor supplementation can cause serious bone disease.
Plant eaters
Herbivorous reptiles need the right balance of leafy greens, fibre and calcium. Fruit is often overused. Species such as tortoises and iguanas have specific needs, so use reliable species-level care information.
Whole prey feeders
Some reptiles eat rodents or other whole prey, usually offered thawed from frozen. Be honest with yourself before buying such a species. If you cannot handle the diet, choose a different animal.
