RHD and Myxomatosis: Why Your Rabbit Needs Vaccinations

RHD and myxomatosis are serious rabbit diseases with high mortality. They can spread through insects, contact, contaminated material and wild rabbits. Indoor rabbits are not automatically safe.

Why vaccination matters

Vaccination is the main protection available. Your vet can advise the correct vaccine and schedule for your area and rabbit. Keep the vaccination record with your rabbit's health information, especially if boarding or rehoming.

Watch for illness

Rabbits hide illness. Loss of appetite, lethargy, swelling, breathing difficulty, fever, sudden collapse or neurological signs need urgent veterinary care. Waiting can be fatal.

Reduce risk

Use insect control, keep housing clean and avoid contact with wild rabbits or unknown rabbits. Quarantine new rabbits and check vaccination status before introducing them to your group.
