Khaki Campbell Duck for sale in the Netherlands

The Khaki Campbell is a light British laying duck that forages actively and may produce many eggs. High production requires balanced feed, calcium and condition monitoring. As a duck it still needs flock, bathing and preening behaviour.

Khaki Campbell ducks: behaviour and suitability

Khaki Campbells forage almost continually for plants and small invertebrates and move as a group. Drakes may overmate females in an undersized group. Always assess the actual animal and, when a trade label covers several species, verify the scientific name before acquisition. Age, sex, health and previous housing can noticeably influence behaviour.

Care and housing

Provide water in which head and body can become fully wet, while managing mud and contamination daily. Feed complete duck food, adequate calcium during lay and several dry resting areas. Set up the complete enclosure before the animal arrives and record relevant values and daily behaviour. A sudden change in appetite, activity, breathing, posture or droppings calls for a check of the environment and, where needed, knowledgeable help.

Health and responsible acquisition

Check foot pads, legs, plumage, eyes, nostrils and body condition. Ask about laying age and flock ratio and prevent persistent laying without adequate nutrition or rest. Ask the seller about age, origin, current care and known health problems, and ensure any documents belong to the animal offered. Never choose on colour, size or price alone, and identify a knowledgeable veterinarian or other species expert before urgent problems arise.
