Vitamin C for Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs need vitamin C from food every day. LICG lists about 10–20 mg per kilogram of body weight daily for adults, while young, pregnant, nursing or ill animals may need tailored advice.

Build a reliable diet

Provide unlimited fresh hay, complete guinea-pig food with stabilised vitamin C, and suitable vegetables introduced gradually. Store food cool, dry, dark and sealed because vitamin C degrades with time, heat, light and moisture.

Why water drops are unreliable

Vitamin C degrades quickly in water and you cannot know how much each guinea pig drinks. Changed taste may even reduce water intake. Lethargy, weight loss, painful joints or poor wound healing need veterinary assessment rather than guesswork with supplements.
