Registering Sheep and Goats in the Netherlands

Even a small hobby flock must be traceable during a disease outbreak. Arrange the correct animal location and understand movement reporting before any sheep or goat arrives.

UBN and identification

The keeping location needs a Unique Business Number (UBN) registered for the species. RVO states that every sheep and goat must have two approved identifiers, at least one electronic. Match both ID codes to the animal and paperwork at purchase.

Report movements

Arrival, departure, import, export, death and missing animals are reported in I&R, generally within seven calendar days. Birth rules depend on the type of keeper, so check the current RVO table. A transport document must accompany movements and paper records must be kept for at least three years.
