A cat experiences a home as a territory of routes, resting sites and resources. Indoor cats depend entirely on the environment we provide, and placement matters as much as the number of objects.
Use height safely
Add stable high resting places with more than one route down, especially in multi-cat homes. Offer open beds and enclosed hiding places, and leave a carrier open as a familiar den. Position scratching surfaces near sleeping and traffic areas.
Spread resources
Use one litter tray per cat plus one extra as a starting point, distributed rather than lined up. Separate food and water locations and provide multiple options so one cat cannot guard everything. Food puzzles and short hunting games add activity, but start easy and include treats in the daily ration.
