A responsible litter starts long before mating. The question is not only whether your dog is lovely, but whether the combination improves the health, character and future of the puppies. Breeding also means weeks of care, costs, risk and responsibility for every puppy you place.
Prepare the parents
Research hereditary problems in the breed and use the recommended health tests. Consider temperament, age, body condition and whether both dogs are suitable breeding animals. A good match is based on more than colour, size or convenience.
Know the practical duties
You need a safe whelping area, veterinary backup, time for monitoring, correct registration, microchipping, passports, worming and vaccination. Puppies also need daily socialisation with normal household life, gentle handling and different surfaces, sounds and people.
Place puppies carefully
Screen buyers, explain the breed honestly and be ready to say no. Provide clear documents and remain available after transfer. If you are advertising puppies, a complete advert with health information and realistic photos attracts better buyers than vague promises.
If your main reason is that puppies seem fun or profitable, wait. Responsible breeding is a serious project with animal welfare at its centre.
