Lories for sale in the Netherlands
Lories are colourful parrots with a brush tongue for nectar and soft fruit. Their liquid diet produces much wet droppings and demands exceptional hygiene, while their energy and voice require a large aviary.

Lories: behaviour and suitability
Lories climb, fly and play almost continually and use the tongue to investigate flowers and objects. They may be strongly territorial towards other bird species. Always assess the actual animal and, when a trade label covers several species, verify the scientific name before acquisition. Age, sex, health and previous housing can noticeably influence behaviour.
Care and housing
Use safely washable walls and floors, replace nectar several times daily in warm conditions and offer species-appropriate nectar plus suitable fruit. Ordinary parrot seed is not a staple for a nectar specialist. Set up the complete enclosure before the animal arrives and record relevant values and daily behaviour. A sudden change in appetite, activity, breathing, posture or droppings calls for a check of the environment and, where needed, knowledgeable help.
Health and responsible acquisition
Check weight, tongue, beak, skin around the vent and droppings. Ask about exact species, CITES status and current nectar product. Spoiled food and one-sided sugary diets rapidly cause problems. Ask the seller about age, origin, current care and known health problems, and ensure any documents belong to the animal offered. Never choose on colour, size or price alone, and identify a knowledgeable veterinarian or other species expert before urgent problems arise.
