Cockatiels for sale in the Netherlands
The cockatiel is a medium-sized Australian cockatoo relative that is highly social and must fly daily. Its powder-producing plumage, contact call and long lifespan demand more preparation than its modest size suggests.

Cockatiels: behaviour and suitability
Cockatiels continually seek contact, preen one another and may panic into cage bars after a night fright. Gentle light and a predictable environment reduce these incidents. Always assess the actual animal and, when a trade label covers several species, verify the scientific name before acquisition. Age, sex, health and previous housing can noticeably influence behaviour.
Care and housing
Provide low-dust ventilation without draught, ample flight length, safe branches and daily destructible and foraging material. Account for fine feather dust where household members have respiratory problems. Set up the complete enclosure before the animal arrives and record relevant values and daily behaviour. A sudden change in appetite, activity, breathing, posture or droppings calls for a check of the environment and, where needed, knowledgeable help.
Health and responsible acquisition
Monitor weight, nostrils, breathing, droppings and feet. Chronic egg laying depletes females. Discuss daylight, nesting triggers and calcium balance early with an avian veterinarian. Ask the seller about age, origin, current care and known health problems, and ensure any documents belong to the animal offered. Never choose on colour, size or price alone, and identify a knowledgeable veterinarian or other species expert before urgent problems arise.
