Kittens need more energy and nutrients than adult cats. Their food should support growth, immunity and digestion. Start with the food the breeder or shelter used, then transition slowly if you want to change brands.
Use kitten food
Choose complete kitten food, wet or dry, rather than adult food or improvised meals. Follow the feeding guide as a starting point, but adjust for body condition and veterinary advice. Fresh water should always be available.
Change food gradually
A sudden switch can cause diarrhoea. Mix a small amount of the new food into the old food and increase it over several days. If the kitten has vomiting, persistent diarrhoea, poor appetite or weight loss, contact a vet.
Build good habits
Feed in a calm place away from the litter tray. Avoid giving many extras, milk or unsuitable human food. Kittens can seem endlessly hungry during growth, but steady growth and a healthy body condition matter more than a full bowl at all times.
