Socialisation is the process by which a kitten learns that everyday life is safe. People, household sounds, gentle handling, other friendly animals and normal routines all become easier when introduced early and positively.
What good socialisation looks like
Kittens should grow up around normal home activity, not isolated in a shed or cage. They should be handled gently, hear common noises and learn to recover from small surprises. Socialisation is not forcing a kitten into fear; it is calm exposure at the kitten's pace.
How buyers can check
During a visit, watch how the kittens respond to the owner, normal movement and gentle handling. Some caution is normal, but constant panic, hiding and no recovery may suggest poor socialisation or stress.
Continue at home
Keep early experiences short and positive. Let the kitten explore one room first, then gradually introduce visitors, sounds and other pets. Good socialisation continues after adoption, but it cannot fully repair a poor start overnight.
