Background and temperament
The breed was developed in Peru as the medium Peruvian hairless variety with quick alertness, strong family bonds and special skin and dental care. That original task still shapes drive, pace and independence. Expect the breed behaviour described here and do not choose on appearance alone. Respect lasting independence, train without force and use a secure lead and fencing where prey drive or reserve limits reliability. Start socialisation, solitude and calm handling while young, using rewards and clear predictable boundaries. A stable dog can recover from new stimuli without continually barking, fleeing or threatening.
Exercise and daily care
Combine long walks with scent work and secure free movement, protect against the relevant climate and monitor escape behaviour. Coat care is: Hairless or rarely coated.
