Farm terrier with speed

The Terrier Brasileiro controlled vermin and guarded farmyards. It reacts quickly to movement and sound and needs consistent positive training. Practise recall, calm visitor greetings and dog contact early. Small size does not reduce prey drive. Manage contact with cats, rodents and birds carefully.

Exercise and simple coat

Combine long walks with secure running, scent work and short agility or obedience sessions. Increase jumping gradually while growing. Brush the short coat weekly and inspect skin, teeth, knees and feet. Protect against cold weather and avoid feeding obsessive behaviour through constant ball throwing.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request patella, hip and ECVO assessment and family records on deafness, epilepsy, skin and thyroid disease. Discuss BAER testing in dogs with extensive white. Verify FCI import pedigree, inbreeding and original results. Choose stable social behaviour and robust movement over rare colour or extreme smallness.
