Elegant hunting partner

The Saint-Germain combines French pointing dogs with Pointer ancestry. It searches energetically and points game but should remain sociable and gentle. Reward cooperation, recall and calm waiting and avoid harsh correction. Restlessness can develop without field or scent work every day. A long lead walk alone is generally insufficient.

Light athletic body

Brush the short coat weekly and inspect ears, eyes, feet and ticks after outdoor work. Keep the dog lean and delay galloping, cycling and sharp turns until growth is complete. Plan recovery and sufficient water. Protect the fine coat in extreme cold without restricting normal exercise.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request official hip and ECVO results and family records on elbows, epilepsy, heart, skin and gastric torsion. The breed is extremely rare. Verify FCI pedigree, import documents and inbreeding. Choose healthy working longevity and stable social recovery over colour distribution or rarity.
