Light and agile field type

The Pyrenean type is smaller and quicker than the Gascony. It enjoys cooperation and can settle well at home when its hunting and exercise needs are genuinely met. Train with rewards and short varied sessions. Build recall, waiting and solitude carefully. Sensitivity is not a reason to omit clear boundaries.

Exercise and care

Plan long walks, searching and, after maturity, controlled running every day. Brush the fine coat weekly and inspect drop ears, feet and ticks after field work. Keep the light athlete lean and avoid repeated hard jumping while growing. Provide recovery and water in warm weather.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request official hip and ECVO results and family records on elbows, epilepsy, heart and gastric torsion. Verify French ancestry, import papers, relatedness and working longevity. Choose stable recovery and free movement over speed, rarity or a striking patch pattern.
