Compact pointing dog

The Bourbonnais searches methodically and enjoys cooperation. It needs long daily exercise and field or scent work, plus calm household rules and gradual solitude training. Reward pointing, retrieving and recall. Force can damage trust. Hunting interest requires secure lead management outdoors.

Natural short tail

Some puppies are born with a short or absent tail. Review pedigree and breeding records so docking is not concealed and have spine, continence and gait assessed. Brush weekly and inspect ears, feet and ticks. Increase hard exercise gradually and maintain lean weight.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request official hip and ECVO results and family information on elbows, epilepsy, heart, gastric torsion and tail or spinal problems.
