Large French field dog

The Ariège is strong and tireless and may respond poorly to monotonous training. Build cooperation through rewards, variety and clear settle cues. Long exercise and genuine scent and hunting tasks are needed daily. Use lead management around wildlife until recall is demonstrably reliable.

Everyday body care

The short coat needs weekly brushing. Inspect ears, eyes, pads and muscles after field work and dry a wet dog thoroughly. Maintain lean weight and delay galloping, cycling and hard terrain distances until growth is complete. Manage feeding around work and recognise gastric torsion.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request official hip, elbow and ECVO results and family records on epilepsy, heart, kidneys and gastric torsion. Verify FCI pedigree, import documents and low relatedness in this tiny population. Select manageable temperament, functional mass and durable movement over rarity or size.
