Pointing gundog
The Bracco searches in an extended trot, points game and enjoys partnership. It needs long daily exercise and hunting-oriented training. Dull repetition loses attention. Reward calmly, remain consistent and teach solitude and impulse control early. Its size and sweeping tail require supervision around young children.
Ears and condition
Brush weekly and inspect long drop ears, lip folds, eyes and feet after field work. Keep the dog lean and delay endurance running until growth is complete. Manage meals around exercise because of gastric torsion. Ear infection, red eyes or persistent pain-related drooling are not normal hunting traits.
Health and choosing a breeder
Both Dutch clubs require hips. One also requires elbows and the other cerebellar ataxia DNA. Request all three, current ECVO eyes and family records on kidneys, epilepsy and torsion. Review identifiable originals and mate carriers only responsibly. Choose free movement and long healthy working lines over a heavy head or abundant skin.
