Rustic cattle dog

This Bouvier drove cattle and guarded farms. It bonds closely with its own people but may reject strangers. Socialise early for calm neutrality and create safe routines for visitors and dogs. Train through rewards and firm boundaries. Force can turn suspicion into conflict. Daily work and a taught off-switch are equally necessary.

Coat and natural tail type

Brush the rough double coat weekly and remove mats and dead undercoat without shaving away protection. Some puppies have a naturally short tail. Verify that docking is not being concealed. Inspect skin, ears and feet and introduce jumping and cattle work gradually while growing.

Health and choosing a breeder

There is no recognised Dutch breed club. Request official hip, elbow and ECVO results and family records on epilepsy, thyroid disease, stomach disease and behaviour. The tiny population makes inbreeding, imported ancestry and genetic spread critical. Meet adult relatives away from their own ground and choose recovery over sharpness or rarity.
