A medium-sized pack hound

The Beagle Harrier was developed in France for prolonged pack hunting. It is usually social with dogs, but scent and group activity can matter more than contact with its owner. Teach recall, rest and solitude from puppyhood and use a long line and high secure ground when necessary. Its voice makes close housing difficult.

Exercise and care

Plan long walks, tracking tasks and controlled running after maturity every day. A garden without work is insufficient. Brush the short coat weekly and inspect drop ears, feet and ticks. Keep this athlete lean and increase distance and pace slowly. Manage meals around exercise because of gastric torsion risk.

Health and choosing a breeder

The Dutch Brakken Club currently requires no health testing. Ask independently for official hip and eye information and discuss epilepsy, thyroid disease, ears, backs and gastric torsion in the family. The breed is rare locally, so verify FCI ancestry, import documents, inbreeding and working longevity. Select social recovery and durable movement over hunting performance alone.
