Nose and voice

This low version of the Grand Bleu de Gascogne follows game with endurance and voice. It works willingly with other dogs and is usually friendly, but a trail can make recall difficult. Use secure containment and a long line and offer purposeful tracking. Close urban housing fits poorly when the characteristic voice is unwelcome.

Functional low construction

Keep the Basset Bleu lean, muscular and moving daily. Increase long distances gradually and limit repetitive jumping during growth without withholding normal activity. Inspect long drop ears, feet and skin after outdoor work. Brush the short coat weekly. A deep chest must not impair movement or ground clearance.

Health and choosing a breeder

The Dutch Brakken Club requires no health tests for this rare breed. Ask independently for eye, patella and hip information and family records on backs, epilepsy, ears and gastric torsion. Verify FCI ancestry, import papers and inbreeding. Choose durable movement, a normal chest and strong feet over maximum lowness, ear length or skin. Rarity increases the need for transparency.
