Temperament and everyday life
Siberians are often confident, social cats that combine physical strength with curiosity. Many enjoy family activity and interactive play, but every cat needs a quiet retreat and control over contact. Introduce children, visitors and other animals gradually. Their powerful build calls for stable scratching posts, broad shelves and secure high routes. Several short hunting games and food puzzles each day help prevent frustration and excess weight.
Coat care and allergy claims
The layered coat protects against severe weather and can shed heavily. Comb to the skin every week, paying attention to armpits, belly and trousers, and increase care during seasonal moulting. Mats pull painfully and should not be ignored. Siberians are sometimes marketed as hypoallergenic, but individual allergen production and human sensitivity vary. Spend repeated time with the individual cat before deciding, seek medical advice when needed and never assume a breed label makes cohabitation safe.
Health and choosing a breeder
HCM is an important concern. Ask for repeated heart ultrasound by an experienced veterinary specialist, not only a DNA panel, and discuss sudden death, heart disease and longevity throughout the family. A negative DNA result covers only the variant tested and cannot exclude every cause of HCM. Review original reports for both parents, ask how older relatives are followed and choose a breeder who shares limitations honestly instead of guaranteeing that a kitten can never become ill.
