Peterbald for sale in the Netherlands

Dutch rules

The official explanatory material explicitly names the Peterbald as a hairless cat whose kittens may lose their coat later. Since 1 January 2026, newly acquired hairless cats cannot be kept in the Netherlands. Only animals demonstrably kept and microchipped before that date fall under transition rules. Breeding was already prohibited and shows or judging are forbidden for transition animals too.

Welfare and care

Variable hair cannot provide reliable protection from cold, sun and skin injury. Keep a legal existing animal warm and indoors, with only secure sheltered outdoor access. Check skin, ears, nail beds, teeth and whiskers without excessive washing. Watch for sunburn, infection, shivering or limited orientation and have signs assessed early.

Health and responsibility

For a transition animal, ask for chip evidence, earlier coat development, HCM ultrasound and family records involving heart, skin and teeth. A coated kitten is not automatically legally safe when the Peterbald trait may cause later hair loss. Do not buy, import or plan a litter. No DNA or ultrasound result removes the fundamental problem of a non-functional coat.
