Temperament

The Neva Masquerade shares its build and temperament with the Siberian. Colourpoint pattern and blue eyes create the visible difference. Many Nevas are confident social cats that join family activity, retrieve toys or seek the highest view in the room. They mature slowly and remain playful for years. Calm introductions can support life with children, dogs or other cats, but every cat has individual limits. Make sure even a friendly Neva can withdraw and is not restrained by visitors.

Coat and environment

The dense weather-resistant coat generally needs weekly combing and much more during seasonal shedding, especially around armpits, hindquarters and ruff. Do not pull hard at mats. Severe tangles need professional help. A large cat needs a tall stable scratching post, roomy litter tray, strong carrier and ample floor and climbing space. Daily hunting play and food puzzles support muscle and healthy weight. No breed is guaranteed hypoallergenic, so test personal contact before an allergy determines a purchase.

Health and choosing a breeder

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy occurs in Siberian lines and may develop later in life. Ask about repeated heart ultrasound for breeding cats, heart disease or sudden death among relatives and other tests recommended by the association. One DNA result does not broadly exclude HCM. Choose a breeder who treats the Neva as a full Siberian variety, protects genetic diversity and does not select only for vivid blue eyes. Parents should move freely, breathe quietly and carry a functional coat without exaggeration.
