Character and movement
Mekong Bobtails are described as loyal, lively cats that enjoy joining household life. Provide hunting games, high routes and puzzle feeding every day and let the cat decide when contact ends. A short tail does not make a cat less active or remove the need for balance. Calm introductions can support life with children and other animals when separate rest and feeding places are available.
Tail and care
The standard requires several kinks or curves and at least three tail vertebrae. Never pull a tail straight and inspect skin, mobility and sensitivity at the base. Pain, stiffness or urination and defecation problems require veterinary assessment. The short colourpoint coat is maintained through weekly brushing. Also check teeth, ears and weight.
Health and choosing a breeder
Reliable disease prevalence is unavailable for this very small population. Ask for imaging or clinical assessment of tail and spine, inbreeding coefficient and family records involving heart, kidney, eyes and teeth. Asian ancestry may make additional DNA tests relevant by line. A short-tailed colourpoint cat is not automatically a Mekong Bobtail without accepted registration. Choose free movement and genetic spread over a dramatic tail.
