Character and background

The Khao Manee is a natural Thai breed referenced in old cat poetry. Many are clever, playful and people-oriented, although they may observe strangers first. Offer hunting games, puzzle food and high routes every day and allow new contact to develop calmly. Odd eyes do not guarantee breed or character. Without a traceable pedigree, a white domestic cat is not automatically a Khao Manee.

White coat and hearing

Dominant white can cause congenital deafness in one or both ears, especially but not only with blue eyes. Ask for an individual BAER or OAE result linked to the microchip. A response to sound at home cannot exclude one-sided deafness. Protect white ears and skin from prolonged strong sun and provide secure indoor and outdoor space for a deaf cat.

Health and choosing a breeder

Few specific disorders are established, but that is not a universal health guarantee in a small international population. Ask about inbreeding, hearing results among relatives, heart, kidney and eye disease and longevity. Parents need general veterinary examination and pedigree-specific screening should be discussed. Choose a breeder who prioritises hearing cats, genetic spread and functional structure over blue or odd eyes.
