Character

Havana Browns are generally curious cats that use paws and nose to investigate what their people are doing. They appreciate predictable company, games and mental work and can bond closely with a household. Calm socialisation helps reduce caution in new situations. Provide high lookouts, food puzzles and a compatible companion when the home is often empty, while preserving individual quiet and attention.

Care

The short brown coat is maintained easily with gentle weekly brushing. Colour and brown whiskers do not remove normal care needs: check teeth, ears, nails and weight and schedule activity every day. Brown domestic cats can exist without this pedigree because the recessive colour occurs beyond the breed. Registration and traceable ancestry are therefore necessary.

Health and choosing a breeder

Research shows relatively low genetic diversity and recognised programs use controlled outcrossing to broaden the population. Ask about the inbreeding coefficient, outcross plan and PRA-rdAc, heart, kidney and dental disease across several generations. Appropriate DNA tests and repeated HCM ultrasound should match the line. Do not automatically select the most uniform chocolate coat. An open, healthy breeding program and stable cat are more important.
