Dutch rules
Since 1 January 2026, acquiring or keeping a hairless cat such as the Donskoy is prohibited in the Netherlands. Only an animal demonstrably kept before that date and microchipped before it falls under transition rules and may remain for life. Resale or transfer must also comply with the legal scheme. Participation in shows, judging, competitions or other displays is prohibited even for transition animals.
Welfare and care
A non-functional coat and abnormal or absent whiskers reduce protection and touch. An existing transition animal needs a warm, draught-free indoor home with protection from sun, hot surfaces and chilling. Inspect skin folds, ears and nail beds without excessive washing. Also watch for stiff or painful joints, lameness and difficulty jumping. The Dutch RVO explicitly identifies joint disease in hairless cats.
Health and responsibility
Breeding the harmful hairless trait was already prohibited. Do not buy, import or plan a new Donskoy litter in the Netherlands. Repeated HCM ultrasound, dental checks and family records still help an existing legal animal, but no test removes the conformational welfare problem. Keep microchip evidence, treat skin or movement complaints early and seek current RVO or legal advice before any transfer.
