Behaviour and space
The Cheetoh was developed from Bengal and Ocicat lines and, despite its name, has no separate wild species contribution beyond Bengal ancestry. Many are large, fast and inventive. Plan strong ceiling-height scratching posts, daily training and hunting sessions and secured outdoor space. An under-stimulated cat may open doors or damage items. Assess individual temperament and never leave young children unsupervised with a powerful cat.
Origin and care
The short coat needs little grooming. Activity, teeth and weight matter more. Ask which generations and registries appear in the pedigree. Not every major cat organisation recognises Cheetoh as a full breed. A spotted cat or Bengal-Ocicat cross without traceable papers should therefore not be sold as a predictable Cheetoh automatically.
Health and choosing a breeder
Request Bengal-relevant PRA-b and pyruvate kinase deficiency DNA tests and repeated HCM ultrasound, plus Ocicat and family risks involving kidney, liver, eye and dental disease. Check patellas and free movement in heavy cats. A DNA panel cannot replace ultrasound or family history. Choose a breeder who shares generation, relationships, socialisation and full results and does not promise health or tameness through hybrid marketing alone.
