Character and environment

The Ceylon is described as playful and affectionate with familiar people while retaining some independence. Give this alert cat hunting games, high routes and food-search work every day. Calm socialisation supports visits, grooming and life with other pets. Every individual differs and a breed profile cannot guarantee behaviour. Choose a kitten that responds with curiosity and relaxes again after a new stimulus.

Care

The fine short coat with little undercoat is easy to maintain through gentle weekly brushing. Check teeth, ears, nails and body condition at the same time. Offer warm rest and safe outdoor stimulation in a run or secured balcony. The compact muscular outline should not become round or heavy. Measure portions and schedule several active play sessions.

Health and choosing a breeder

The European breeding population is very small and reliable breed percentages are unavailable for many diseases. Ask about pedigree, origin, inbreeding and diagnoses among relatives, plus the reason for each DNA or clinical test. Repeated HCM ultrasound and general eye, kidney and dental checks may be useful by line. A ticked coat or a found cat from Sri Lanka is not automatically a Ceylon without registration. Choose transparent ancestry and welfare over rarity.
