A companion in every activity

Burmese cats often seek laps, follow daily tasks and retain playful behaviour throughout adulthood. Long periods without contact are a poor fit, so provide present household members or a compatible animal companion alongside human time. Introduce children and dogs gradually and offer high retreats. Their friendly reputation never removes individual boundaries. Let the cat choose handling and provide quiet uninterrupted sleep.

Coat, play and weight

The close satin coat needs only gentle weekly brushing. More attention belongs to measured food, body-condition checks and several daily hunting games, because a compact frame and strong appetite can hide gradual obesity. Use climbing, food puzzles and retrieval games to maintain muscle. Select a functional muzzle: a progressively flatter face can impair breathing, eyes and teeth and should not be treated as desirable breed type.

Health and choosing a breeder

Diabetes, PKD and hypokalaemic myopathy occur more often, and the muscle condition has a DNA test. Relevant lines also require discussion of Burmese head defect, GM2 gangliosidosis, FIP, cancer and early kidney failure. Review official DNA and kidney results, blood group and family records. Carriers may sometimes be paired responsibly with clear animals, but two untested cats should never be combined. Maintain weight and reject guarantees based on a panel alone.
